A rain storm left Saint-Etienne-Au-Mont, France, underwater on Nov. 5, after it caused the nearby Liane River to go over its banks, sending water racing into the community.
In what has already been a wet start to the month so far across much of the United Kingdom, another storm system will bring more rain to the country this weekend.
While this storm is not expected to rise to the level of a windstorm, the persistent rain will bring the threat of flooding, travel delays and gusty winds.
On Friday, the BBC reported that a woman's body was removed from floodwaters in Derbyshire. Nearby in Chatsworth, the River Derwent had record flooding very early on Friday morning.
Travel delays were caused as several rail lines had to be closed due to flooding.
The worst of the weather over the weekend will come from Saturday into Sunday morning as a storm drops southward across the British Isles.
The heaviest rain over the weekend is expected to fall to the south of areas that received the heaviest rain and worst flooding from rainfall during the next several days.
Rainfall amounts of 13-25 mm (0.5-1.0 inch) are expected through Sunday across England and Wales, the heaviest of which will fall across southwestern area.
Just the odd shower is expected over much of Scotland and northeastern England. In the Highlands, showers will be wintry as cold air remains across the region.
Gusty wind will largely be confined to Wales and southwestern England. Gusts, however, should not be strong enough to cause damage.
This rain is going to add on to what has already been a wet month across the U.K. During the first five days of the month, the city of Edinburgh, Scotland, has already received 54 mm (2.13 inches) of rain, which is nearly the average rainfall for the entire month of November. Through Thursday, rain had been recorded on 11 straight days.
Edinburgh is already more than 100 mm (4 inches) above the average annual rainfall with nearly two months to go in the year, thanks to a wet late summer and autumn.
In addition to the unsettled weather, the air will be chilly for early November. Temperatures across much of the U.K. will be running about 3 degrees Celsius (5 degrees Fahrenheit) below average each day through the weekend.
There will not be much of a pattern change into next week, with the potential for more storms and more rainy spells.
