The Real Windy City
When it comes to the windiest cities in the United States, many automatically think of Chicago. However, Chicago isn't the windiest city. In fact, they're not even ranked in the top 10!
The National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) has compiled a list of the top 10 windiest places in the lower 48. The number one spot is reserved for Mount Washington, N.H. Mount Washington is the highest peak in the Northeastern United States and is famous for their dangerously erratic weather.

As for Chicago, their average annual wind speed is 10.3 mph.. Which puts them pretty far down the list for "Windiest Cities."
