Panama City, Mexico Beach first responders keep wedding date with Hurricane Michael destruction as a backdrop
It had been only a week and a half since Hurricane Michael raged through Mexico Beach, Florida, flattening buildings and destroying homes.
Despite the chaos, destruction and heartbreak that the storm brought on the town, these two first responders decided to keep their wedding date.
Panama City Police Detective Cori Clark and Mexico Beach Firefighter Bryon Hughes got married on Sunday, Oct. 21.
"It was a beautiful sight among all the destruction," the Panama City Police Department wrote in a Facebook post.
The couple had been planning their big day for months. The storm almost caused the couple to cancel their plans, but they changed their minds and decided to have it despite the turmoil.
“A police officer and a fire fighter who fell in love. Their love is stronger than a hurricane, so they decided to keep their wedding date and location,” the wedding photographer Sara Lynsey wrote in a Facebook post.
The couple was surrounded by their fellow officers and firefighters at the ceremony with storm debris and a stunning sky as the backdrop.
“This is just the kind of story our little town needs. A story of heroes and love that has overcome all and triumphed,” Lynsey wrote in the post.
