Dry days in Northeast will give slight reprieve before soaking rain returns this weekend

Droves of curious observers and photographers took to Grand Haven State Park for the fierce waves and fascinating spectacles Lake Michigan offered up on Oct. 22.

While mainly dry weather will settle into the northeastern United States for a few days, forecasters say that umbrellas will be needed this weekend.

"A high pressure system will keep the weather dry and pretty tranquil for the rest of this week," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Carl Babinski said.

The weather will continue to cooperate for people paying their last respects to Congressman Elijah Cummings in Baltimore on Friday.

Following Thursday's warmth, temperatures will be trimmed by several degrees across the interior on Friday as a weak storm system sweeps into the East.

This feature should be a catalyst for some rain, according to Babinski.

Any rainfall should primarily be confined to the Interstate-90 corridor late in the day on Friday.

Dry weather is likely to hang on in Washington, D.C., for Game 3 of the MLB World Series between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros on Friday night. Temperatures will be in the lower 60s throughout the game.

It may be a different story for Game 4 on Saturday night as a new, stronger storm system is poised to move into the East this weekend.

This storm system will first unload snow in the Rockies and southern Plains, and soaking rain across the South through late week.

How quickly the rain moves into the Northeastern states this weekend has yet to be set in stone, but at this time fans heading to Nationals Park for Game 4 should make sure they have rain gear on hand.

Some of the rainfall with this system can be heavy, according to AccuWeather Meteorologist Tyler Roys.

"It is possible that the heaviest and steadiest rain passes by to the north and east of the Washington, D.C., area during Saturday evening," according to AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski.

"This is because the main storm will travel up west of the Appalachians and toward the Great Lakes," Sosnowski said.

"While a secondary storm may form, as they often do near the coast, that may not occur over the mid-Atlantic coast, but perhaps rather New England."

The region can expect another period of slow travel on the road, airline delays, and saturated outdoor plans.

Depending on the exact speed of the storm, the rain could impact the NFL games in Buffalo, New York, and Foxborough, Massachusetts, on Sunday afternoon.

AccuWeather meteorologists will continue to provide details on the timing of this weekend's rainfall in the Northeast as details become clearer in the coming days.
