7.6 magnitude earthquake rocks Caribbean near Cayman Islands
A powerful 7.6-magnitude earthquake struck the Caribbean Saturday evening near the Cayman Islands, prompting a tsunami advisory for several nearby islands.

A powerful 7.6-magnitude earthquake struck the Caribbean on Saturday evening approximately 130 miles southwest of the Cayman Islands, which prompted a tsunami advisory for several nearby islands for a time.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the tremor occurred at 6:23 p.m. EST, roughly halfway between the Cayman Islands and Honduras. The earthquake's epicenter was located about 125 miles south-southwest of George Town in the Cayman Islands at a depth of approximately 6 miles.
The seismic event placed Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands under a tsunami advisory for a time during the evening, but that was later canceled.
There have been no reports of injuries or significant damage in any of the affected areas.
