Oman, Yemen on alert for tropical cyclone, following deadly Cyclone Sagar
On the heels of deadly Cyclone Sagar, a new tropical threat is brewing in the Arabian Sea this week.
Early reports from Somalia indicate that more than 25 people have died following heavy rain and destructive winds from Sagar.
More than 650,000 people have been displaced and widespread losses of livestock have been reported.

While Djibouti and Somalia continue to recover from Sagar, a new threat is already taking shape east of Somalia in the Arabian Sea.
A tropical low will track north to northwest and pass just east of Socotra Island through Wednesday. During this time, it is expected to become a named tropical cyclone. The name Mekunu would be given to the storm when it achieves tropical cyclone status.
The tropical system will lash Socotra with gusty winds and downpours from late Tuesday into early Friday. During this time the island can expect to endure some flash flooding and winds capable of damaging homes and causing power outages.
A continued track toward the north and northwest will take this future cyclone toward southern Oman with landfall possible late Friday or Saturday.
At this time, locations from eastern Yemen through much of Oman should monitor this situation closely for possible tropical impacts.
This storm could strengthen into a cyclone equal in strength to a hurricane in the Atlantic or east Pacific oceans.
Impacts would include damaging winds, flash flooding, mudslides and long-duration power outages.
