Known as the Mile High City thanks to its location of one mile above sea level, Denver provides visitors with a spectacular view of the Rocky Mountains from various spots in the city. You have the High Plains of the South Platte River Valley, located to the west of Denver as well. With a population of 650,000, the economy provides locations to ski, hike, shop, eat, and enjoy the nightlife. For rainy or colder days, museums and other indoor activities are available. If you’re planning on visiting Denver, there are some things you should put on your tourist to-do list.
The Air & Space Museum
The Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum includes plenty of information and exhibits relating to aircraft, space vehicles, and the Air Force. There are nearly 50 aircraft and space vehicles on site, such as the RF-84K Thunderflash Parasite and the B-18A Bolo. It’s a great location for both adults and kids. You can wander on your own, or you can take a tour with a very knowledgeable tour guide. Don’t forget to stop in the gift shop for a souvenir before you leave.
Molly Brown House Museum
A socialite and activist in the early 1900s, Molly Brown, is known for surviving the sinking of the massive Titanic. After her rescue, she played a big part in the rescue of many others. This museum is dedicated to Molly Brown, with more than 50,000 visitors coming by annually. Guided tours of her home include information on her life, her experience with the Titanic, and much more.

Garden of the Gods
Okay, this technically isn't in Denver, but it's a worthwhile hour and 45 minute drive away. Garden of the Gods is a spectacular National Natural Landmark. With towering sandstone rock formations, nestled within Colorado Springs, it is the most visited attraction in the Rockies. It truly is breath-taking, and you can easily spend the better part of the day walking, exploring, and taking in the beauty around you. The park does offer organized hikes, led by guides, as well as Jeep, Segway, or bicycle tours. But don't be mislead, you can elect to simply take a self-guided walking tour of the grounds. This really is a must-do/must-see part of visiting Denver.
Denver’s Botanical Gardens
Denver is vibrant during June, July, and August, but you can enjoy gorgeous foliage year-round at Denver’s Botanical Gardens. This location has conservation programs that protect the natural habitats and species that are unique and important. There is a Japanese garden that you must do so you can take photos next to a pool and lily pads. A tropical biosphere is also beautiful to explore. If you want to stop for a bite, there are two different restaurants on site.
The American Museum of Western Art
If you’re from the East coast, you’ll likely find The American Museum of Western Art interesting. The museum provides information on history in the West from the early 1800s and on. It goes all the way to the present day. The Anschutz Collection is ongoing at all times, providing guided and self-guided tours. There are more than 200 pieces in total from Bierstadt, Maynard Dixon, Russell, Thomas Moran, and Remington. Some of the art is graphic, so children under the age of 8 are not permitted. An adult must accompany children 8 to 16 to enter.

Red Rocks Park
You can view the Rocky Mountains from this exceptional spot. There are miles and miles of hiking trails for all levels of experience. Sandstone cliffs and more than 700-acres of park provide a picturesque experience of the Great Plains and more. The Trading Post Trail is perfect for people who aren't staying long. It's about 1.5 miles long, winding through some great scenic spots.
Mount Evans
If you’ve come to Denver for fresh air and scenery, you have to add Mount Evans to your list of places to go. The elevation is an impressive 14,271 feet, making it Colorado’s 12th highest peak, but also one of the most beautiful. You’ll see views of Pikes Peak, Longs Peak, and Mount Bierstadt. You can take the Pikes Peak route for a shorter duration to your sightseeing destination, but Mt Evans has a lot less traffic and more places to stop. You’ll travel through some interesting climate zones, no matter what time of year you’re visiting. You can hike from the lake to the peak, which takes approximately 4 hours in total. The spring months in Denver provides a landscape of flowers while still viewing snow at the top of the mountain.
Denver is truly a beautiful place to visit whether you’re traveling with your family in tow or you’re on your own. Many people come to this area for the picturesque views in summer and even winter, which is one of the best things about Denver. There are plenty of activities to enjoy as well. Don’t forget to spend some time in Larimer Square, which is Denver’s most historic section. It’s a great place to stroll through in the evening. There are beautiful lights and decorations in all of the storefronts. This is where you can pick up some great souvenirs. You can also kick back and attend Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey Tour or stop at Union Station in downtown Denver for a taste of history. If you visit Denver, make sure that you check your forecast for the day, so you know what to prepare for.
