The New AccuWeather.com is Now Available
Completely Redesigned Web Site Provides the Internet's Most User-Friendly and Accurate Weather
(State College, PA - April 20, 2005) - AccuWeather.com announced today that its new free web site, www.accuweather.com, is now available to all Internet users. Completely redesigned for a total focus on the user experience, the new site includes over one hundred features that were not available on the popular former version.
The new site was designed with feedback from users of the former site, who were able to rate and comment upon selected pages and features via our Redesign Blog and design test microsite. Many of their comments were incorporated into the new design, ensuring an optimum experience for visitors. For example, users can customize the look of the site to their own preferences, quickly check their personal weather forecasts for unlimited locations by using the "my AccuWeather.com" tool, and can place widgets, sprockets and gizmoids on their desktops for even faster access to favorite pages. The many sections within the site are now grouped into "centers" for ease and speed of navigation, and directory pages quickly lead users to the information they seek.
This extensively updated site also includes a beta version of Google's new Local Search, which provides visitors with the ability to search for local businesses in a specific geographic location. Results include business information such as phone numbers and addresses; a map with the exact locations of businesses; and driving distances and directions.
Besides the many new features, the new AccuWeather.com includes the most detailed, accurate local forecast information for every zip code and community within the U.S. and Canada (and around the world); the only 15-day forecasts available on the Internet; Hour-by-Hour™ forecasts; complete local Doppler radar; severe weather bulletins; and much more. In fact, all of the weather forecast features of the former site have been improved and expanded. Columnists' blogs are archived and retrievable so that if a fan misses their favorite forecaster's blog or vlog (video blog), they can retrieve it at their convenience. Special interest sections for health, gardening, golf, skiing, marine weather, travel and astronomy are just a mouse-click away. The site invites users to become part of the AccuWeather.com community through interactivity with the Redesign Blog, emails to columnists' blogs and special events onsite.
"We're pleased to be a beta test site for Local Search by Google," said Dave Wrieden, AccuWeather.com Executive Director of Sales. "Our millions of visitors will find this an extremely useful search service for locating anything they need, from businesses and product sources to government offices, in any zip code area."
"The depth and range of information available on the new AccuWeather.com free site makes us, now more than ever, the source for The Best Weather on the Web," says Jim Candor, AccuWeather.com Senior Vice President of New Media. "With its appealing graphics, easy-to-navigate pages, and loads of valuable content, every visitor will find weather information for all of their needs, with customization that allows them to choose the locations they want to check and the way they want to view the site."
